NYC duo Jillian Hervey (25) and Lucas Goodman (26) make up one of the hottest acts in the world right now. Fresh from announcing a brand new collaboration with Disclosure, we managed to bag their latest track ‘Impossible’ for our new TV ad AND catch up with them to find out how they met, their influences and more...
How did you meet?
J - We met at my first college party years ago through a mutual friend of ours. Lucas' song was playing at the party and I introduced myself after hearing the track. We reconnected a few years later.
L - Yah our friend Zach Baker brought Jillian to a party we were at. We didn’t talk that much when we first met, just said what up and things. She said she liked a song I made that was playing.
Who are your musical inspirations?
J - I have a wide range of inspirations but some great ones are Earth Wind and Fire, James Brown, Tribe Called Quest, Billie Holiday and James Blake.
L - J Dilla, Lee Scratch Perry, Flying Lotus, Funkadelic, Outkast, Kanye, Wu Tang, Iggy Pop, The Cramps.
Tell us about 'Impossible'...
J - It’s a track originated by our good friends and producers in the UK, Joel Compass and Linden Jay. It feels good for the summer… it gets you moving. Sometimes that's all it has
L - Yah it’s a tune we did with the homies Joel Compass and Linden Jay. It’s about the fact that it’s impossible for someone to change your uniqueness and that’s good.
What’s the best thing about each other?
J - I Think we are both free spirits and support that. It's easier to take a risk with someone willing and able.
L - We're passionate and we love to make things and have fun.
What influences your style?
J - Nature, history, nostalgia and my family.
L - Family, NYC, my favourite people.
