It can be extracted from the flower and the upper parts of the plant. Known for its excellent calming properties, it helps ease irritation, impatience, and supports with PMS and other menstrual or menopausal issues. Roman chamomile is an evergreen with a fresh apple scent, and is primarily grown in France, Belgium, and Eastern Europe. This herb is beneficial for skin problems such as acne, eczema, rashes, wounds, dermatitis, dry/itchy skin, and allergies. It is also said to help alleviate abdominal pain, gall bladder issues, throat infections, and relieve hay fever and asthma. When diluted, it calms children suffering from colic, irritability, diarrhea, and teething. Used in a vaporizer, it helps ease headaches, nervous complaints, and migraines. Though gentle enough for use with children and babies, always consult an expert before use. The medicinal use of chamomile dates back thousands of years, with the ancient Egyptians, Romans, and Greeks all utilizing it. The Egyptians dedicated chamomile to the sun god, and a papyrus document dating back to 2800 BC records its use for treating skin disorders. Chamomile oil was even used in embalming. Hippocrates, the great Greek physician, is said to have used it as a remedy. In mythology, chamomile was one of the nine sacred herbs gifted by Wodan, the god of the underworld, to mortals for improving their lives.
